I want to create my own site…!
When one tries to create a personally developed site, usually they end-up using one of the major open source software packages in order to achieve this.
Myself, following Joomla and Drupal I ended up with WordPress 3 years ago. And then I had to handle the different offerings of .org and.com WordPress sites, finally understanding that they are NOT the same at all.
It takes a lot of time to choose, but a very good infographic by wpbeginner.com explains the differences and makes it far easier.
When you use .org it’s free, but there are indirect ways that .org is being assisted.
Hosting on specially promoted hosters like Bluehost, Siteground, WPEngine, or any other major WordPress hosting company, equals indirectly promoting the use of the WordPress package as all these organizations contribute to WordPress. Moreover, If you are using Yoast SEO, BackupBuddy, Sucuri, OptinMonster, Envira Gallery, Soliloquy, you also indirectly subsidize WordPress.
If you do not seek to make some money from your page, then use WordPress.com. Otherwise, use self hosted WordPress.org.
